Potomac, Maryland is a community that blends rural simplicity with the ultra-exclusivity that often the long, hard-driving, specialized career people who buy in to the area, create.

Though Potomac is largely the result from the push of Montgomery County’s suburbanization craze of the 1950s, its beginnings reach all the way back to the early 1800s.  The Perry Store, owned and operated at the turn of the prior century, has been restored and still stands today as part of a bank.

The area was, up until the advent of “developer conceived communities” or tract housing, largely farming and rural. It is still a community greatly interspersed with rural living. Many properties are lined with equestrian fences and host working barns and farms. People trek to Potomac in the fall to pick apples at places like Red Orchard and Homestead Farm.

Potomac was dubbed the “Suburb on Steroids” by Urban Turf, with the median income somewhere around $200,000 – though it’s a not requirement to live there.  It is in the top five of the nation for highest-income communities.

While the developed neighborhoods are otherwise traditional in every sense of the word with properties set reasonably close together and standardized, homes are genuinely truly dreams come true.  They are custom-built, architect and designer conceived, constructed for utmost comfort as well as to express something of the owner who had it built.

Though set back from the bustle of Rockville and other nearby busier communities, Potomac is not without its shops and restaurants. As part of Montgomery County, it enjoys the best public schools in the country as well as some of the most-sought private schools, which is saying something, since the DC metropolitan area and outlying communities have among the best private schools there are.

Fun and wonderful facts about Potomac:

  • Hiking trails such as The Billy Goat Trail, Ford Mine Trail, and the Carderock Recreation Area make Potomac a great place for outdoor enthusiasts.
  • Real House Wives of Potomac which premiered in January 2016, has brought some attention to the area and showcases some of the most notable homes in the neighborhood.
  • Potomac Day is an event that features a parade, community fun and a car show. Many residents look forward to this each year
